Junior legionaries march the Roman frontier!
The Hunterian Junior Archaeologists' Club trip on Saturday 5th April was a march along part of the Antonine Wall from Croy to Bar Hill.
The march, which was completed by the Hunterian Junior Archaeologists' Club members in support of Scotland's bid for UNESCO World Heritage Site status for the Antonine Wall, took about two hours (including a minor detour to climb up through the trees on the adjacent hill!) Everyone agreed that the Antonine Wall provides an excellent opportunity to get out into the countryside for a healthy walk, taking in Scotland's amazing heritage along the way!

We had bright sunshine all the way, and all the legionaries performed their duties in spite of the cold wind! An on-site demonstration of Roman arms and armour was provided, and volunteer soldiers and their favourite goddess took up their posts in the fort.

The hot soup, tea, and hot-dogs at Twechar Healthy Living and Enterprise Centre was very welcome at the end of the march!

Thanks again to the Auxiliary transportation volunteers (i.e. Mums and Dads) - everyone who wanted to go on the march was able to thanks to the "ferry" service.
