Old Kilpatrick
Distance Slab of the Twentieth Legion, Old Kilpatrick
A sandstone distance slab erected by the Twentieth Legion, recording the completion of 4411 feet of the Antonine Wall. This stone was found near Old Kilpatrick Fort before 1684. RIB 2208. The slab is 69cm high by 73cm wide by 12cm in diameter. The inscription reads: IMP C T AE HADRIANO ANTONINO AUG PIO P P VEX LEG XX V V FEC P IIII CDXI which translates as "For the Emperor Caesar Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius, father of his country, a detachment of the Twentieth Valiant and Victorious Legion completed [this work] over a distance of 4411 feet".
