Hutcheson Hill
Distance Slab of the Twentieth Legion, Castlehill
A sandstone distance slab of the Twentieth Legion, found at Hutcheson Hill about half a mile along the Wall to the south west of Castlehill fort. The inscription reads: ITM HADRIANO AE ANTONINO AVG PIO P.P. VEX LEG XXVV FEC PP III which translates as "For the Emperor Caesar Titus Aelius Hadrianus Antoninus Augustus Pius, Father of his Country, a detachment of the Twentieth Valiant and Victorious Legion built [this] over a distance of 3000 feet". It is 75cm high by 95cm wide by 14cm deep.
