Go Roman Handling Boxes

If you are studying the Romans, why not borrow our themed handling boxes?

Our ‘Go Roman’ Antonine Wall themed resource features a handling collection of quality replica Roman objects. There are four themed boxes:

  1. The Legionary Soldier
  2. The Syrian Archer
  3. Off Duty
  4. Food and Cooking

What is included in the resource?

Each theme also has a set of Teacher’s Notes and accompanying set of ‘Let’s Investigate’ object discussion and information cards. These can be downloaded from the Historic Environment Scotland website.

How is it linked to the curriculum?

Go Roman is linked specifically to Curriculum for Excellence experiences and outcomes, First Level in Social Subjects: People, past events and societies. However, it can be adapted to be used by any age group and out with a classroom.

How do I loan a box?

All 4 themed boxes are available to borrow from Historic Environment Scotland in Edinburgh. Contact the Historic Environment Scotland World Heritage Team on 0131 668 8763 or email heshandlingboxes@hes.scot

Collect from / return to: HES Longmore House, Salisbury Place, Edinburgh EH9 1SH

Terms

Boxes are available for up to 3 weeks. One box per school/group at any one time. Collection and drop-off is Monday – Friday between 8.45am and 4.30pm. A date and time will be arranged directly with the World Heritage team.

Theme 3 and 4 boxes

Theme 3 and 4 boxes are available to borrow from the Glasgow Museums Resource Centre.
