Accessibility

The site is signed from Bearsden Cross on A810 and lies approximately 600m down Roman Road. Free car parking is available 300m west along Roman Road from the site.

The site is easily accessible from the main road. Grass and stone slabs within the area might be slippery when wet. There is uneven surfaces and trip risk from low walls, cobbling and wooden posts.

History

Bearsden is the location of a fort and annexe. The modern ‘Roman Road’ follows the same route of the fort’s principal road. The site is best known for its well-preserved bath house and latrine block which provides a valuable insight into the rhythms of the soldiers’ daily lives.

What can I see today?

The fort which once lay here is now mostly covered over by roads and houses. You can visit the exposed remains of its bathhouse and latrine block within the area of the fort’s annexe.

What was found there?

Several artefacts have been found here including the carved head of a goddess, a gaming board, and a building stone inscribed by men of the Twentieth Legion.
