History

On the top of the hill, within the public Goldenhill Park, a small fort and an earlier fortlet were located. Uniquely for forts on the Antonine Wall, the fort did not have a southern gate. On the west slope of the hill, a Roman bathhouse was located near the Duntocher War Memorial.

What can I see today?

There are no visible traces of the fort, but you can see a small part of the ramparts stone base within a railed enclosure. The ditch can be traces from around Duntocher Burn eastwards to Golden Hill. The prominent position of Golden Hill Park offers excellent views of the surrounding landscape.

Near the fort is a recently installed Roman themed playpark.

What was found there?

An altar to Jupiter was found close to the fort, and a statue of a water nymph was found on the site of the bathhouse. A number of distance slabs and samian ware plate were also found near the fort.
